Do it in the AM

Some Saturday party music...

Rolling in the Deep

Love this girl with my heart and soul, such a great song and music video.
You really don't hear artists like Adele often, not only does she have an AH-mazing voice, but she has some serious soul. Listening to her new album I feel like half of them were written by a friend confiding in me and saying "I've been there in spades darling, just listen..."
As for the other half, they still make my chest absolutely ache. She has such a heartbreakingly beautiful and emotive voice.
As for this one? This is definitely a *sigh* I've so been there... song.

I Wrote the Book

I Wrote the Book by Beth Ditto

I have a serious girl crush on Beth, but I've never actually sat down and listened to her songs. I've had this stuck in my head all week.

Judas

Loving Lady Gaga's new single Judas, check it out:

Rumor Has It

I love the pipes on this girl, what a drop dead sexy voice and kick ass attitude. Loves.

E.T.

Katy Perry I can take or leave usually, but I thought this video was stunning, and my inner sci-fi geek is very pleased.
Of course, you'll get the reference to Lady Gaga's Born This Way video. I prefer to think that it's more likely just a trend in today's artists and musicians. Have you noticed the rush of the supernatural, sci-fi and dystopian  themes?
My thinking is that people are looking for an escape, considering all of the crazy that's going on in the world right now. No one wants to believe that this is it, suck it up and deal with it, so culture-wise we prefer to retreat into elaborate fantasies.
Nothing wrong with it, just an observation on my part. Of course, enough philosophizing, check the video out:

Break You Hard

Another song from one of my favorite British pop stars, Natalia Kills, to kick off your weekend.

Guilty

I'm afraid that thanks to my dad I have a taste for country music (bear with me people). So here's what I'm listening to at the moment.
Although, I would like to point out that country musicians are some of the highest grossing in the music industry. So apparently someone else out there likes country too : )

All of the Lights

Kanye West's new music video for "All of the Lights" if you're prone to epileptic seizures I would not recommend...

The Pack

Heading back to Boston with my hetero-life mate (aka my bffl for all of you old school folks) to go to an old girlfriend's 21st birthday party this weekend. Holla!
Watch out all of you guys at MIT, you have no idea how New York chicks party ; )

But guys, it's Friday so here's a little music to get your weekend started:

Bionic

This is an old song, I know, but it's going on my mix for going out tonight so you're welcome : )

I was surprised that this album didn't get more press coverage when it came out. But then again, I suppose it's a very different sound than people are used to from Christina Aguilera. I like the development, although I don't think it really showcases her voice to it's full potential.
Eh, you win some you lose some.

S&M Rihanna

For that mid-week hump....

S&M by Rihanna

I know some people love her, some people hate her (I happen to love her), but this new music video is worth a watch.
I love how she absolutely rips into the press and exposes the ridiculous hypocrisy we have towards our celebrities. Whoever came up with this video certainly has a wicked sense of humor.

Plus, that ass Perez Hilton in a ball gag? What more do you want?

Vivian Maier

I just wanted to share this amazing story (and amazing photos) with you all.
Vivian Maier was a nanny by day and in her off hours was a street photographer from 1950's - 1990's. No one had known of her work, until it was discovered recently in an Estate sale in Chicago.
They uncovered 100,000 negatives, thousands of prints, and a ridiculous amount of undeveloped film.

John Maloof  bought the photographs and negatives and is now undertaking the process of developing all of the film and archiving it, and sharing what he finds on his blog.

The images are simply stunning for an amateur photographer.

Oh No She Didn't

I have the unfortunate dilemma that I came back to NYC two weeks before school started, so I'm home but nobody else is.
It gives me a lot of time to wander about the city though, so I'm fine with it.
After strolling downtown, almost falling face first into a pile of slush (those walking skills need a little bit of practice) and finding a bookstore to browse, I perused the fashion section for anything good as usual.

I came across Clinton Kelly's book Oh No She Didn't!: The top 100 style mistakes women make and how to  avoid them.
I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. While the advice is a little DUH?! (it is for the stylishly challenged after all) the tone and the writing style make it worth a read. I actually was laughing out loud in the book store for most of it, and yes I did read it cover to cover.

The tone reminded me a lot of my gay and transexual friends advice to me.

On a random side-note, transexuals give the best fashion/makeup advice ever.
Except for that time one of them advised me to get a nose piercing or a tattoo because "that fresh off the farm look isn't doing anything for you".
But in general, what better person to give advice on how to appear attractive than a man, who dresses like a woman, but still is attracted to women? Makes more sense than a girlfriend giving advice on what a guy will like.
Of course, I tend to dress for myself, but they definitely know what's flattering and sexy and what isn't :)

Natalie Kills

Not only is this new artist awesome because we share the same birthday (though of course, I'm sure that helps ;) )
But because she reminds me of a rougher, darker, British, Lady Gaga.
Same fashion style, same dance beats, and she's drop-dead gorgeous to boot.
Awesome.

Adventure Time

On a completely random note, because my brain is functioning on pretty much -1% capacity this week, and all I really want is a box of cupcakes from Crumbs and to sit down and watch a marathon of "Adventure Time with Finn and Jake".

Finn and Jake
Awww....

Btw, I'm secretly five too.
I don't know what it is about this show that I find so entertaining, even though it's marketed towards kids (kinda like how GQ is definitely marketed towards guys and I just ordered a subscription. There ya go) I've gotten my whole room hooked on it.
For a clip head over here.
Trust me, one show is never enough.

And in other news, finally got my hands on 3oh!3's second album, Streets of Gold.
This is five months after I got it as a birthday present for my best friend. Perhaps I just should've pre-ordered two? Or is that too logical?

Deja Vu by 3oh!3

Yeah, they're the musical equivalent of cotton candy, all fun and no substance.
But I still love them  : )

Book Worm

I think this is just perfect, as I'm always seen carrying either a paper-back novel or a textbook (ah, the glamorous life of a student).
Now I can carry my usual accessory on a night out with the girls too.

However, no one will believe that I'm willingly reading The Great Gatsby,  so can I get that in The Passage or perhaps Perfume?

Currently I'm reading Invisible Monsters, recommended by a friend as "an awesome female version of Fight Club". As you can tell, I try to save my literary tastes for my class work : )

Wonder Woman Gets Her Nails Done Too

Here's what's playing on my ipod lately.
I think that it's definitely a little reminder that all of us could use once in a while.
